Individual customers can now order genuine Apple parts to repair their devices. Apple’s new ‘Self Service Repair’ allows consumers who are comfortable in repairing their own devices to order genuine parts and tools.
The scheme will only be initially available to iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 users but M1 Mac users will soon be able to take advantage of the service.
The repair service will be available to customers in the US early next year and international territories in 2022.
The service will start offering parts for common repairs such as the iPhone display, camera and battery. Apple says other repair parts will be available next year.
Jeff Williams, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer said:
“Creating greater access to Apple genuine parts gives our customers even more choice if a repair is needed”
“In the past three years, Apple has nearly doubled the number of service locations with access to Apple genuine parts, tools, and training, and now we’re providing an option for those who wish to complete their own repairs”
