Squid Game’s creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed that Squid Game will be returning onto Netflix for a second season, after the show broke Netflix records and became the most watched original Netflix show in the company’s history.
Netflix estimated that Squid Game all in all will bring in around $900 million for the company, and Season 2 may prove to be just as big.
Hwang told the Associated Press at a Los Angeles event:
“There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season, so I almost feel like you leave us with no choice! But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen.”
Hwang also confirmed the return of the main protagonist, Seong Gi-hun, in Season 2. He said that Gi-hun ‘will do something for the world’, suggesting that once again he will play a pivotal role in the plot of the second season.
As of yet, there has been no release date for Season 2, but you can watch Season 1 of the show exclusively on Netflix.
